Dear Friend,
Welcome to Game On Cancer 2017! We are so happy that you've joined our team in the fight against cancer. As we kickstart our 2017 campaign, we have some announcements and updates that we'd like to share:
2017 Ambassadors
We're honored to have Dr. Steve Kalkanis and Mr. Spencer Hoover as our Game On Cancer Ambassadors this year.
Dr. Kalkanis is the Medical Director of the newly formed Henry Ford Cancer Institute, which spans all five Henry Ford Health System hospitals with nearly 1,000 employees treating the most adult cancer patients in Michigan. Dr. Kalkanis also runs the Henry Ford Precision Medicine Program, which promises new hope to cancer patients through targeted treatment options based on a patient’s specific molecular genetic profile. He was recently invited to the White House as a leader for the Cancer Moonshot Program.
Hoover, current Vice President and Executive Director of the Henry Ford Health System’s Henry Ford Cancer Institute and cancer care services, has 16+ years of experience in finance, business development, investment banking, healthcare operations, strategy, administration and other critical business functions. Earlier this year, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder appointed Hoover to serve on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Veterans' Facility Authority. Following his senate confirmation, Spence and the Board will oversee a $110M budget to create long term care facilities and other services for veterans.
Welcome to the GOC team, Dr. Kalkanis and Mr. Hoover!

2017 HAP Marathon Partnership
Run for a Cause!
GOC has teamed up with HAP and our HFHS Wellness Ambassadors as a charity partner with the Detroit Free Press, and
we’re forming teams to run the Detroit Free Press 5k, half and full marathon
events in October 2017. Contact us for more information on how every step you
take can help fight cancer.
New Mission and Fund Allocation
Game On Cancer Mission: To assist our patients, their families, and their care-givers throughout their cancer treatment.
100% of funds raised through Game On Cancer are directed
to our mission. 40% of funds are directed to patient assistance, 30% to research, and 30% to supportive oncology programs.
Pistons Join the Team
Henry Ford Health System recently announced a new partnership with the Detroit Pistons, which will include a state-of-the-art training, rehabilitation and sports medicine complex for the Pistons near our corporate headquarters in Detroit. As part of the agreement, we will become the official health care provider for the Pistons beginning with the 2017-18 NBA season.
Another exciting element of this partnership is that the Pistons are joining the Game On Cancer team to help us level the playing field against cancer. Let's give a warm welcome to our new teammates, the Detroit Pistons!
Contact us if you have any questions, or if you'd like help getting started on your fundraising! We're here to help. Game On!
