MISSION MOMENT:

Lynn's Story - Mother, Sister, Teacher, Patient, SURVIVOR

It was back-to-school season in 2016, when Lynn got a call from her doctor’s office that she needed to go back for a repeat mammogram. The 2nd mammogram led to a biopsy, which showed breast cancer. A double mastectomy was scheduled.

As a teacher, Lynn was forced to stop working to avoid being exposed to flu and other contagious illnesses while she was in treatment. This meant her income dropped drastically. She was fortunate to meet a Henry Ford Cancer Institute social worker, Gwen, who brought her case to Game On Cancer.

With her limited income, lack of insurance coverage and decreasing savings, Lynn was in trouble. Fortunately, because of the generosity of GOC sponsors and fundraising teams, we were able to pay Lynn's COBRA insurance coverage and two house payments.

"It was just enough and all that I needed to get me through some really scary and stressful times," she said. "I just started work back... and I'm committed and passionate about Game On Cancer (Thank GOD for that group). I want to be a voice and advocate, and a Henry Ford Health System voice in the community." - Lynn W.

SPOTLIGHT:
