TEAM HIGHLIGHT: Detroit Free Press Marathon Teams

In this newsletter, we’d like to highlight all of our Detroit Free Press Marathon Teams!

On Oct. 14th and 15th, Game On Cancer welcomed over 125 runners and walkers as they crossed the finish line one step closer to finding a cure and helping our patients in need. Participants raced in the 5K, the Half Marathon, the Full Marathon and even a relay team.

Together, our marathon participants have already raised over $70,000 for Game On Cancer. Thank you!  You can check out some of our favorite photos from the race here

If you didn’t join us at the marathon this year - please consider it for next year! Our participants told us that their experience was “so much fun!” and “life-changing!” If you’d like to get in on the action early and make sure you’re on the Early Bird registration list, please email us at gameoncancer@hfhs.org with the subject line “Early Bird Marathon!”  We’d love to challenge each of you to bring a friend with you in 2018 and help us become the #1 Race Charity Partner for the Detroit Free Press Marathon.

MISSION MOMENT:

This summer, a social worker discovered that ovarian cancer patient Nichelle was stuck with two important tools for living completely out of commission. No stove. No running car. Nichelle received her ovarian cancer diagnosis in 2011, after managing mysterious symptoms for several years. She received her diagnosis when she came to HFHS Fairlane Medical Center. She’s undergone chemo and will soon be participating in a clinical trial. She’s on a limited income due to her treatment and simply doesn’t have extra funds to pay for car repairs or a new oven. There’s where Game On Cancer stepped in to help.

“I love to cook healthy meals for myself and didn’t have a properly working stove for months. I’m so grateful that I can cook again!” Nichelle told us. “The help from Game On Cancer came at just the right time and helped to relieve a lot of stress. Thank you, Game On Cancer.”

Contact us if you have any questions, or if you'd like help getting started on your fundraising! We're here to help. Game On!
